In this sculptural adaptation of a painting by E. V. Heemskerk, we see one peasant assisting another with a tooth extraction. The original setting suggests their limited means in this genre setting. It is a colorful and dynamic interchange. Heemskerk specialized in humorous genre scenes of daily life, most typically depicting peasants in tavern interiors. His work shows the influence of Adriaen and Isaac van Ostade as well as Jan Steen, and continues the peasant painting tradition started by Brueghel. This fine art statue of the Dentist measures 24"W x 13"H (60 x 34cm) and is made of bonded stone.
